Getting around Barcelona:
A lot of the city centre is pedestrianised but there is still the metro and buses available if it gets a little too hot for walking.
The Barcelona Metro is cheap, clean and easy to use with its colour-coded maps. The metro runs under the city centre but is above ground in the suburbs. We found it helpful that the fares are integrated with the local buses for added convenience, as it's the same company that runs both.
Taxis in Barcelona all run on Meters so you can keep an eye on your fare. Taxis are easily spotted as they are black and yellow, so just flag down a taxi with a green light atop and you're on your way. However don’t forget that baggage can be extra if you are travelling in from the airport.
There's also the shiny new tram system in Barcelona called the Trambaix, which connects the city with Baix Llobregat just to the south west of the city.
However we reckon the best way to see the city is to hop on the Barcelona 'Bus Turístic'. What better way to see the city than from the comfort of an open top double decker bus. It is a 'hop-on hop-off' tour so you can jump off at any attraction you want and the best bit is that you get a discount at most of the attractions! Tickets cost EUR18.00 for 1 day and EUR22.00 for two conseutive days and covers three routes, the most popular being the North Route and the South Route.
