Barcelona – know before you go:
Money –
Spain is located within the Euro Zone, so you’ll need to stuff your wallet with Euro!
Most major credit cards are widely accepted but always ask beforehand to make sure. And most ATM’s will accept credit cards along with bank pass cards containing the Cirrus logo.
Tipping isn’t usually necessary as a service charge is normally included but taxi drivers and waiters traditionally receive around 5-10% of a tip.
If you intend to use your credit card when shopping, do remember to bring some form of identification as credit cards will not be accepted without it.
Pickpockets are everywhere in the city, so be very careful with your wallet or bag. Do not carry a lot of cash around with you and always watch your belongings.
Business hours –
·General shopping hours are from 8- 9am to 2pm and from 4pm to 8pm. Some large department stores open at 10am and don't close at lunchtime. Saturday is the busiest shopping day of the week, but many shops close in the afternoon.
Telephones –
·Barcelona has a good public telephone system, which was updated for the Olympics; so public phones in the street work well and accept most euro coins. You can also purchase phone cards from tobacco shops for use in card phones. Telephones in the streets are called Cabinas.
Emergencies –
Emergency - 061
Fire Department - 080
Police - 091
Ambulance - 93-3002020
When’s a good time to go –
