Museu Picasso

Barcelona
The Picasso Museum in Barcelona is in the heart of the old city on the Carrer Moncada. Since its recent expansion, the museum now sprawls over a row of five Gothic palaces.

Picasso (1881-1973), though born in Malaga Picasso moved to Barcelona with his family in 1895 where he spent the remainder of his life, many of his works were inspired by the city. The Museum, which opened in 1963 allowed the genius of Pablo Picasso to be revealed to everyone. There are more than 3500 works of his permanent collection here.

What to see here? Well Id recommend the permanent Barcelona collection which is probably the most famous collection too! This includes Las Meninas (1957), a collection of 58 works analyzing Velázquez's painting Las Menas. This work is divided into 3 sections - painting and drawings, engravings and ceramics.

There are also many temporary exhibitions, whose main aim is to show specific aspects of Picasso’s work in depth, as well as that of other artists of the twentieth century. This approach to exhibitions, a task that the Picasso Museum has undertaken for more than fifteen years, has contributed to the popularity of the museum, which is now one of the most popular in all of Spain.
